What is to keep the spammers from taking this down the same way they took down bluefrog? DoSing the webpage/forum. |

lol.
Um. because we are smarter? (Actually, there is a different
reason, listed below).
We were the first ones to actually create this type of product.
Lycos then came out with a product six months later that appeared
very close to our product, it was effective, then they decided to close
it down. At the same time they were promoting a paid anti-spam
e-mail service. Then, came the blue frog, from what we've heard about.
Both appear to be motivated by money. We are motivated by having
literally got pretty 'pissed' by spammers.
We just need to work on the promotion aspect.
We are doing this project for different reasons. From what we've
gathered, blue frog was doing it because it was a good business
opportunity. Once that business was threatened (i.e., apparently the
spammer found out how to spam people active in the project), from what
we've read it seems they decided to close it because it would no longer be
profitable.
We, on the other hand, have not made a lot of money on it. (Actually,
the occassional donations/etc we get help pay for hosting, chocolate
milk, etc, but as of yet no where approach the time, effort, etc
involved in creating it). Contrary to blue frog/lycos, we are doing this
because we actually *are* pissed at spammers. If a spammer was stupid enough to try and close this site or do something else (which, actually
*has* happened), that would make us more "pissed". Since this is a voluntary effort, we would simply pour more time and effort into it, until that spammer stopped his spamming.
Our motivation is getting more people to use it. (Of course money is
nice ) But if we had 1,000 people consistently on the scoreboard,
that would be very good. |

Yeah ... go, get'em !!!
The only thing that (besides debugging ) has to be done is to spread this nice tool. I wonder why PC paper and online magazines didn't promote this tool (as far as I know). First time I've heard about it was, when I started too google the web for anti-spam tools (no filters, more active stuff).
Maybe they're afraid of potential legal stuff ... which - to be honest - I'm still not sure of.
But if they write something, that has to go on the SIB startpage.
That was the advantage of Lycos ... it's community. If they move in a direction, thousands will go that way as well. |

Yes, actually I'm not quite sure why some of the magazines have not yet picked it up. I think it is because we need to do more promotions. It was very easy for Lycos to get the promotions they needed, because they are such a large company (and I think (wild guess) have something like 600 million behind them?) |

Hi Spamitback,
you said that
... We are motivated by having
literally got pretty 'pissed' by spammers.
and
Our motivation is getting more people to use it.
.
Now beeing a member for a few months and even "donated" money for a tool that fights spam I'm not sure if you stopped and retreated from your project or if you just took a break ...
If you gave up, then please let me/us know. I think it's not fair just to ignore your "fans".
Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards

Hi j0k3r,
I guess the programmer left us for good and this forum is only good as a platform for google hits for spammer sites ...
I'm really pissed by now ... I mean, that someone has a good reason for teaking a break is ok, but leaving for good without saying a word is pretty bad.
Right now I'm sticking to (www.Knujon.com) which is pretty cool. They shut down 8025 sites by now. The forum is located here: (www.castlecops.com/f240-Knujon_General_Discussion.html). You can find me there as well (same nick).
I also got an account for (www.spamcop.net). There's a plugin for Thunderbird. The mail, marked as Junk will be reported with a click to Knujon and Spamcop. I receive online Knujon reports and am quite happy with the results (x sites beeing shutdown ... YEAH !!!).
Maybe see you there ... if you privately want to contact me here's a temporay email address: exspamitbacknowknujon AT trashmail.net ... just replace the AT with the other sign
The account is valid for 1 month and limited to 20 mails. This is only for my safety so harvesters don't collect my mail address (BTW ... TRASHMAIL this is an excellent plugin for Firefox to generate temporary mail addresses ...)
So ... I'll check this forum here only once in a while, but I guess I gave up hope, that SPAMITBACK will support me/us ... Pitty, it was a promising but buggy tool with a bad support ...
Take care !

I have had greater success contacting the advertiser, in the spam mail,
by doing tracert www.spammers.com or who ever.
I then take that I.P. address along with copy paste on source, and notify both of them I am not happy about the lousy spam mail.
http://aruljohn.com/track.pl is the place to take this information, to find
out who is doing the dirty work etc.
I have notified all the major internet providers, that I will be willing to assist them since I am a certified paralegal, in pursuing legal action against the
