Hi everybody, hi SpamItBack,

I recognized over the past weeks, that more and more spam-entries are inside this forum, advertizing stuff or propagate email addresses.

Since (almost) all members of this board favor a spam-free world we should have an eye on that and maybe prepare ourself for that as well.

Spamitback ... is there a possibility to report (flag) spam-entries immediately so it's easier for you (the admins) to delete this crap and kick those users ?
Or maybe you or somebody else have a better idea how to counteract that.

The good thing is that apparently we're annoying exactly those people (or sites) what actually is a hidden proof of your concept and program (*applause*)

Regards

Oli32de

Hi,

Thanks -- actually we are deliberately letting some of the spam messages being posted here (at least for a short while), for several reasons:

(a) It may partially be due to anti-spam efforts, but a 'new' technique in spamming is writing bots that post random entries to thousands of online messages boards. The idea is that (aside from people who actually visit the links, which, sadly/surprisingly a lot do, and some even purchase), but it also 'increases' google PR (in terms of linking back, etc). So it is not only 'forum spam', but it is also search engine link spamming. So we decided at least for a little while to let them post, just to see what kinds of posts/which spammers are using these techniques.
(b) We also haven't had time Razz We need to rewrite part of this php board, which will automaticaly disable posts sent by these types of spammers and forward it to our own 'special' location. But that is on the to-do list. For now, we are simply manually moving them once we receive the messages.

Thanks,

SpamItBack

Hi SpamItBack,

it's been quite a while since you were active in this forum. The spammers are targeting this forum and it becomes more and more unreadable.

Question:
You intend to rewrite the code of this forum, right ? In my opinion debugging the spamitback program is more important than changing the forum php.

Proposal:
As a circumvention I'd propose to give a few "active" forum members some sort of admin rights so they can delete the forum spam immediately or if you need a copy of that, to mark it as spam and it becomes invisible for the normal forum members.

Application form:
[X] I want to volunteer as a forum cleaner (spam-only) Wink

And ... I'm still willing to support this project and I hope you too ...

Regards

Oliver

I totally agree with you, oli32de. There're things more important than a php-based forum. IMHO bug-fix of SIB has the high-level priority (with this I don't wanna teach you how to do your job Wink ), in the while you can give moderator privileges to serious people (not to me, then LOL! Laughing )

Have a good day, guyz!.. Cool
