MIAMI (AP) — Ryan Tannehill has a new team. Now the Miami Dolphins need a new quarterback.Miami traded Tannehill on Friday to the Tennessee Titans in a deal that also involved draft picks. The Dolphins sent their sixth-round pick this year to the Titans for a fourth-round choice in 2020 and a seventh-round pick in April.Tannehill’s sports agency tweeted that as part of the trade Taylor Lewan Jersey , he signed a one-year deal with the Titans. He will replace Blaine Gabbert as the backup to Marcus Mariota. General manager Jon Robinson said Friday that Gabbert will be released.Tannehill turns 31 in July, and his departure from Miami had been expected. He became the starting quarterback as a rookie in 2012 and has still never taken a postseason snap. His contract was to balloon to $18.7 million in base salary this year, and he would have counted $26.6 million against the salary cap. The Dolphins are picking up $5 million of his $7 million salary, but will save $8 million on the cap this year and $25 million on the cap in 2020.This season Tannehill will count $18.4 against the Miami cap, but he will not count anything against the 2020 cap.Tannehill tweeted:“To the @Titans fans, I couldn’t be more excited to get to work! Always hear such great things about Nashville and cant wait to be a part of what the organization is building…let’s go!!! #TitanUp”The Dolphins are seeking their quarterback of the future under new coach Brian Flores. They have the 13th choice in the April draft, and might devote their first-round pick to a QB for only the second time since 1984.As a stopgap, Miami is also in the market for a veteran. Free agent Teddy Bridgewater met Wednesday night with the Dolphins to discuss playing for his hometown team, but decided to remain Drew Brees’ backup in New Orleans.Gabbert, signed last offseason, went 2-1 as a starter with the Titans but couldn’t win the one game they needed to reach the postseason in the regular-season finale.Tannehill, 42-46 as a starter Jurrell Casey Jersey White , missed all of 2017 with a knee injury, and sat out five games last year with an injury to his throwing shoulder. He said at the end of 2018 he wanted to remain with the Dolphins. But owner Stephen Ross fired coach Adam Gase and ordered a roster overhaul while acknowledging it may take several seasons to build a winner.Miami went 7-9 last year and ranked next to last in the NFL in yards, worst in franchise history.Tennessee, meanwhile, adds an injury-prone quarterback to the one it has. Mariota, the second overall pick in the 2015 draft, never has played a full NFL season and is 27-28 as a starter. The Titans this week also acquired free agent defensive end Cameron Wake, who made the Pro Bowl five times with Miami. Wake has 97 sacks and was a 2012 All-Pro, but figures to be more of a situational player in Nashville. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans‘ trust in their young receivers may be starting to pay off.Corey Davis, the fifth overall pick in the 2017 draft, is leading the Titans with 744 yards receiving and could become the franchise’s first 1 http://www.thetitanslockerroom.com/authentic-jayon-brown-jersey ,000-yard receiver since 2013. Tajae Sharpe notched his first 100-yard receiving performance in October, and Taywan Taylor became the third to post a new career high with 104 yards receiving in the Titans’ comeback win against the Jets. It’s a confident trio that’s becoming more comfortable with each week.“We know what type of players we are,” Taylor said Tuesday. “We know what we bring to the table, all of us, my brothers in the receiving room and everybody on this team. We know what type of players we are, and … when we trust our training and everybody executes, good things can happen.”The Titans signed only veteran Michael Campanaro during the offseason and didn’t replace him when he was placed on injured reserve. They signed young tight ends in Anthony Firkser and MyCole Pruitt after three-time Pro Bowler Delanie Walker broke his right ankle in the opener. Since then, they’ve leaned on Davis, Sharpe and Taylor along with Darius Jennings and Cameron Batson.Mix in a new offense with a first-year play-caller in coordinator Matt LaFleur, and the Titans have had plenty of growing pains. It didn’t help when Taylor, their speed threat, missed three games with an injured left foot. Taylor was drafted in the third round out of Western Kentucky last year.Marcus Mariota overthrew Taylor on the first play of the fourth quarter against the Jets. He went back to Taylor for a 44-yarder and then a 55-yarder t o set up a pair of field goals in their big comeback.“It was good to see Taywan be able to stretch the defense and go make a play Kevin Byard Jersey ,” coach Mike Vrabel said. “I know Marcus would like to have the one back, but to be able to hit two of those to change field position and momentum, certainly, we would like to have as many of those every week as we could.”The Titans (6-6) need the young receivers to produce for an offense that ranks 29th in the NFL, managing just 197.5 yards passing per game. It won’t be easy Thursday night when they host the Jaguars (4- and a secondary featuring Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye in a game Tennessee needs to win to keep itself in the chase for the AFC’s final wild-card slot. This franchise hasn’t had a receiver post back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since Nate Washington did it in September 2013.Mariota sees the Titans’ comfort level growing weekly as they become more efficient. Getting Taylor back should ease the defensive focus on Davis, who had 161 yards receiving in the Titans’ overtime win over Philadelphia in September and 125 yards against the Patriots in November. Now the key for Mariota and his receivers is continuing to show progress as the Titans chase a second straight playoff berth.“We’ve just got to continue working at it,” Mariota said. “It’s a process, but I think it’s something to build off of and something that we can use moving forward.”NOTES: Sharpe (ankle) and CB Malcolm Butler (quadriceps muscle) were limited in practice Tuesday. Mariota (right hand) practiced fully. … The Titans signed RB Dalyn Dawkins to their practice squad after waiving him from the active roster Monday. _________________ hong wei wei |
