The gear-based, strategic approach to melee battle introduced in Assassin's Creed Origins returns in MMOGDP, and Ubisoft is drifting into it this time around. The system is based heavily on timing, blocking, and knowing when to get a hit in versus when to proceed on the defensive, and you'll be able to fortify your weapons using specific special abilities to get an advantage. Finishing moves return, also, providing you a gloriously over-the-top animation when you eventually figure out how to take down an enemy.
An adrenaline meter similar to this one in Origins is also contained and charges as you strike in combat, but this time it's tied to super-powerful Spear of Leonidas skills. This is how you'll use special moves like the Spartan Kick.
Stealth is deemphasized in a similar manner to Origins, also, with sneak kills not actually reassuring the death of your target, even with an added capacity to increase the damage dealt. With fewer situations where stealth is preferable, but this shouldn't be much of a problem.
Not everything relies on the formulation set forth in Origins. According to Gamespot, protects are placed to both sides in favor of simple dodging, though enemies will still use them.
