Unfortunately, this difficulty highlighted a issue in how updates, such as Grim Sky, Rainbow Six Siege Credits are managed in Siege. The difficulty was a result of a little optimization intrinsically linked into an otherwise huge refresh for the match, meaning rolling back into an earlier construct in which matchmaking functioned would also have meant un-releasing Grim Sky.
This, in turn, could have interfered with the huge quantity of communication and promotion Ubisoft was doing at the run-up to the new update, which contained all up to and like a massive, live unveiling in the Six Majors tournament in August. It also could have caused problems with the season pass, as taking content away season pass players had paid for would have caused a possibly even bigger uproar compared to matchmaking problems caused.
This ordeal has convinced Ubisoft to alter updates are handled for the match. Content updates, such as a new season, will now be unrelated to the smaller backend changes, such as the optimization which caused all the problems, allowing elements of the game to be rolled back without affecting game content, if a similar problem arise later on. While this may not alter how players encounter Siege considerably, it should provide a huge amount of equilibrium to the game and permit problems to be identified and adjusted much, much faster.
I've been a lover of Ubisoft's games for decades, playing, following, and engaging in Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, The Division, Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed, together with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time being one of the first games that I bought with my own money.
